A German style Christmas Market will take place for the first time at Cua Bac Church, No.56 Phan Dinh Phung, Hanoi from December 14 to 16.

According to Director of Goethe Institute Vietnam Wilfried Eckstein, the fair will feature 13 booths, most of which will introduce craft products, including different Christmas decorations and some traditional German foods.

Especially, among the booths, there are eight booths simulating the wooden house. At the same time, the highlight of the market is an eight-meter high Christmas tree decorated with lights.

Under the framework of the event, at 8pm on December 21, the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO) will perform Christmas music pieces, such as Mass K.317 of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or Orchestral Suite No.3 in D major, BWV 1068 of J.S. Bach, under the baton of conductor Honna Tetsuji.

In addition, the concert will feature the combination of two Vietnamese artists Ha Pham Thang Long and Vu Manh Dung and two German artists, Claire Gascoin and Florian Siever.

Co-organised by the Hanoi Goethe Institute and the VNSO, the event aims to offer the public a typical Christmas atmosphere in the traditional German style.

The Germany Christmas Market has long been a cultural site where visitors come to experience the typical Christmas atmosphere, as well as prepare for the New Year. The most famous Christmas market in Germany is Nuenberg, which sells handmade products and Christmas specialties.

Christmas markets are usually held in large, open spaces and close to churches. For this reason, the Hanoi Goethe Institute has come up with the idea of holding a German Christmas market in Hanoi. The 100-year-old Cua Bac church, with its clock tower and picturesque windows, is considered as the perfect festive backdrop for the Christmas Market.
