Bangkok (VNA/NNT) – Thailand has planned to propose the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy as an approach to sustainable development during the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Symposium on Inter-Regional Partnership for Sustainable Development.

Hosted by Thailand from May 25-26 in Bangkok, the symposium follows the Thai Prime Minister’s declaration during last year’s ASEM Summit in Mongolia of the country’s determination to open a platform for member nations to discuss and exchange methods for fostering sustainable development.

The main objective of the symposium is to strengthen cooperation between Asia and Europe in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. The event also provides an opportunity for Thailand to present the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy initiated by King Bhumibol Adulyadej as an alternative to creating sustainable development.

Besides Thailand, the two-day gathering draws 170 delegates, including guest speakers from many other ASEM member countries, including China, Germany, Finland, Japan, Switzerland and the Philippines.

As part of the symposium, the participants will on May 26 travel to Khao Hin Son Royal Development Study Center in Chachoengsao province, where they will learn about model development projects being implemented by Thailand in accordance with the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.
